Hello again, IWBies
Let’s be honest: this is the time of year when Berlin starts testing us. The days are getting shorter, the sky has turned that familiar shade of grey and the clocks go back in a couple of weeks.
If you’ve been scrolling through photos from home, counting the hours until your next call with your mum or quietly asking yourself what you’re doing here, you’re not the only one. Winter is when homesickness hits hardest for so many of us. It’s not a sign you made the wrong choice. It’s proof that you left behind something you love.
So consider this our reminder that you have 41,000+ women in your corner. They know what it’s like to crave food that tastes like home, to tell the same story in a second (or third) language and to build a life from scratch in a city that isn’t always warm, in any sense of the word.
Every week, a small team of immigrant women puts this newsletter together on our own time, because we know how lonely Berlin can feel, especially when winter arrives. If IWB has ever made you feel a little less alone here, even 1€ helps keep it going.
Light a candle, put the kettle on and call someone who makes you feel at home. And if home feels especially far away this week, remember that you’ve got a whole community right here.
With love,
Sabrina & your IWB team 💖
