Dear IWBie,
Every November there’s a moment when Berlin quietly switches the lights off on us. One day you’re having a Feierabend drink outside, and the next it’s pitch black at half four and the whole city seems to have agreed, without a word, to stay indoors until March.
We’d like to suggest an alternative.
This edition is our small act of resistance against hibernation. The real reason to get off the sofa is the agenda. There’s Berlin Science Week, Cirque du Soleil, a free pizza rave for charity, and much more. My personal favourite is Alceu Valença celebrating 80 years on stage with a show in Berlin. If you’ve never heard of him, take this as your homework: put on one of his songs and you’ll understand why every Brazilian in the room will be singing along, word for word.
We’ve also picked out the best conversations from the group, a few housing offers and some reading for those long, dark evenings.
Grab a scarf, grab a friend, and come out to play.
With love,
Sabrina & your IWB team 💖

Sophie founded Easybeeberlin in 2020 for busy people with tiny gardens and big balcony dreams. With an art degree and horticulture training from Capel Manor (UK), she builds gardens that look gorgeous without the hard work.
Spring joy, planted now
Grey Berlin months? Plant your hope today. Sophie’s “bulb lasagne” packs a whole season of colour into a single pot.
You’ll need: tulip, daffodil and crocus bulbs (any Baumarkt or garden centre), a pot with drainage holes and compost.
How to layer it:
5 cm of compost, then tulips, pointy end up
5 cm of compost, then daffodils
5 cm of compost, then crocuses
Top with compost and water well
Why?
Crocuses bloom first, so they sit on top. Daffodils follow, and tulips close the show from the bottom. Each one gets its own space and its own moment, which is ideal for small balconies.
