APRIL 2024: The Key Changes in Germany
As we navigate through April 2024, Germany has seen a range of new regulations and policies come into effect, touching various facets of daily life. Here’s a further detailed exploration of each update, complete with their initiation dates:
Cannabis Partial Legalization (Started on April 1, 2024): Germany decided to make it okay for people over 18 to have a small amount of cannabis for themselves. They can even grow up to three plants. Starting from July, special clubs will open where adults can buy cannabis legally. This big change is to make sure cannabis is safe and controlled.
Heating Cost Increase (Kicked in on April 1, 2024): The tax on gas and heating went back up from a lower rate to 19%. This means people will need to pay more to heat their homes. This change comes after a temporary break was given to help with high energy prices.
Parental Allowance Adjustments (Changed from April 1, 2024): Families will see new rules for getting money when they have a baby. Now, they can get this help only if they earn less money than before. This is to make sure the help goes to those who need it most.
Parental Leave Division (For babies born after April 1, 2024): Parents with newborns now have to take turns staying home with the baby instead of both staying home together, except for one month. This is to encourage both parents to share the responsibility while keeping their jobs.
Job-Relevant Training Allowance (Qualifizierungsgeld) (Begun on April 1, 2024): This is a new plan to help workers get paid while they learn new skills for their jobs. It's all about making sure workers can keep up with new demands at work.
Travel Allowance for Trainees (Started on April 1, 2024): Young people getting job training far from home can now get help paying for trips to visit family. This helps them feel closer to home while they learn.
Deutschlandticket for Students (Available from April 2024): Students can now travel around Germany on public transport for a much cheaper monthly price. This makes it easier for students to get around without spending a lot of money.
Driving Theory Test Expansion (Effective from April 1, 2024): The test you need to pass to learn to drive now has 61 more questions. This is to make sure new drivers know more about keeping safe on the roads.
Blitzermarathon (Happened between April 15-21, 2024): For one week, there were extra speed checks on the roads to catch drivers going too fast, especially in dangerous areas. It’s all about making the roads safer.
Amazon Return Policy Change (Changed from April 25, 2024): Amazon decided you now have only 14 days, instead of 30, to return things you buy. This makes it important to think carefully before you buy something.
These updates show Germany is changing some rules to make things better for people's health, safety, and financial well-being. 💖
