A Life of Resilience and Advocacy
Margot Friedländer’s life story is one of survival, love, and relentless activism. Deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp on June 16, 1944, she witnessed and endured unimaginable horrors. Yet, her spirit remains unbroken. “So many people murdered,” she recalls. “I will never forget.” Her eyes, full of memories, reflect countless stories of both pain and perseverance.
Facing Contemporary Issues
Friedländer is acutely aware of today’s political climate, expressing her dismay at the rise of right-wing extremism and antisemitic attacks. “I am horrified,” she says, reflecting on the resurgence of hatred and division. Her message remains clear: the importance of remembrance and the need for unity. Despite her age, she continues to speak at schools and public events, sharing her story and advocating for tolerance and humanity.
A Life in Fashion and Beyond
Friedländer’s passion for fashion began in 1936 when she enrolled in a Berlin arts and crafts school. Her dream of becoming a designer was interrupted by the war, but her love for beautiful clothing never faded. Today, she still appreciates well-made garments, often sharing stories about her favorite pieces and their memories. “Fashion was my escape,” she explains, “a way to hold on to beauty and normalcy amidst the chaos.”
A Call for Unity and Humanity
Margot Friedländer’s message is simple yet profound: “Look at what unites you.” She embodies resilience, love, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her story, now featured on the cover of VOGUE, serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring human spirit and the importance of kindness and unity in the face of adversity.
Margot Friedländer continues to inspire with her wisdom and strength. “Every day is a gift,” she says. “We must use it to build bridges, not walls. To heal, not hurt. This is my mission, and I will carry it out as long as I am able.”
