👉 Spätis: The Lifesavers
Over 1000 Spätis in Berlin are the unsung heroes for snacks, cigarettes, beer, and sometimes more substantial groceries. Despite Sunday being a statutory rest day, many Spätis stay open all week. Technically, they are only allowed to open Monday through Saturday, but many operate on Sundays, risking fines due to high demand.
Some Spätis have found a way around this by stocking on-the-go supplies for tourists or rebranding as cafés and pubs.
