February '24 was the Warmest February in Recent German History
The recent weather patterns in Berlin and Brandenburg have been setting new benchmarks for warmth this February, according to the German Weather Service. Meteorologist Adrian Leyser highlighted that the month is on track to become one of the warmest Februarys on record, with temperatures averaging around 6 degrees above the long-term February climate norms. Despite the month being only halfway through, this significant deviation is already making headlines.
As we move into the weekend, the weather forecast promises more of this unseasonal warmth. Thursday dawned in the capital under a blanket of clouds, with scattered showers and patches of fog in the morning. The day is expected to remain mostly overcast, with temperatures reaching a high of between 11 and 14 degrees Celsius.
The night into Friday brings a mix of unstable weather conditions, featuring partly cloudy skies and light rain, primarily in northern Brandenburg. By day, Friday will see a mix of cloud and sunshine, staying dry with brief moments of cheer. However, the afternoon and evening may bring rain sweeping from west to east across the region. The warmth continues to be a notable feature, with anticipated temperatures soaring to a very mild 13 to 16 degrees Celsius.
This February's weather is notably mild, with mid-month temperatures peaking up to 16 degrees in Berlin and Brandenburg, marking an unusual trend for this time of year. The German Weather Service's reports confirm that this February's warmth is indeed out of the ordinary, setting a precedent for what might be one of the warmest Februarys in recent memory.
